Artist In Residence, In-Situ, Pendle
'Covid is requiring us all to continually adapt quickly; as organisations, audiences and as practitioners and as individuals.'

In January 2021, I was commissioned by In-Situ, Pendle for a week-long Artist in Residence within their new Testing Ground Programme - 'an experimental platform where we can test new ways of working in a time where geography, access and engagement are considerably altered'.

'Testing Ground / 4: Lydia Griffiths (18th - 24th January)

We started the New Year with our fourth Testing Ground Residency. Artist Lydia Griffiths stayed at home for a remote, week-long residency to create work that responds to the Pendle landscape.

Lydia explores light as its own artistic material and has been experimenting with documenting experiences of the natural world. Inspired by a visit to Pendle before the most recent lockdown, Lydia has developed a body of photographic, virtual reality and installation works, re-presenting the landscape around us in an immersive experience.

Beginning every project with her own photography, she draws on shapes, colours and formations within her imagery as well as remembering her sensory experience. The final installation she has created, brings a virtual world of pixels and digitized memory into a physical, transient space for an audience to explore. Making a virtual space powerfully present, representing a natural environment through almost complete abstract imagery.'
